Getting Electricity

Kenya Power and Lighting Company is the sole distributor of electricity in Kenya. For new connections, one is required to fill Electricity Application Forms (Link to KPLC application form) and pay a refundable deposit. Power is billed in Kenya Shillings per Kilowatt hour. Other charges in electricity bills include Fuel Costs Adjustment charge,

Foreign Exchange Adjustment charge, 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), Rural Electrification levy charged at 5% and Energy Regulatory Commission levy charged at 3 Kenya Cents per Kilowatt Hour.
