Machakos County hosts many local and international investment companies that command regional market leadership in mining, hospitality, manufacturing, food, agriculture and many other economic sectors that position the County as a prime location for doing business in Africa. The Machakos Investment Conferences held on 16th -17th May 2013 and on 2nd - 3rd November 2013 saw the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) worth over KES.56 Billion (about 650 million dollars) in investment in the county.
Located 1000-1600 meters above sea level and 64km South East of Kenya’s capital Nairobi, Machakos County is a 30 minute drive from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and connects Nairobi County to the Konza Techno City, a Kenya Vision 2030 flagship project that is set to be Africa's first Silicon Savannah and an oasis of modern living and class.
Established in 1887 as the first administrative centre for the new British East Africa and was named after the great Akamba chief, Masaku. Following the relocation of the capital to Nairobi, Machakos has since remained a great place to do business and has long served as an administrative, agricultural and trading centre

Machakos County boasts a diverse selection of cultural tourist attractions such as the Fourteen falls, OlDonyoSabuk National Park, The Magnetic hill anti-gravity site, the Masinga dam, Iveti Forest reserve, the Komarok shrine, Machakos People’s park, the 5,000-seater open amphitheatre and the Lukenya hills and many more. The County's hilly terrain and breathtaking scenery is perfect for camping, hiking safaris, ecotourism among other tourist activities.
Machakos County is positioned itself as the sporting hub, with sports tourism taking a center stage with rugby, soccer, marathons and off road challenge sporting activities and tounaments in the County. The greatest success story has been the popular Masaku sevens an annual rugby tournament that attracts over 50,000 tourists in Machakos and is rapidly growing into an international tournament. Other sporting activities include the 4*4 Rhino charge, Bundu Rovers and the KCB safari rally, all organized through joint efforts of both the Machakos County and the private sector. The newest entrant is the Tour de Machakos, the Machakos County version of the famous Tour de France, a cycling competition attracting the range of elite, black mamba and family cyclist.
Machawood is a one of a kind Entertainment platform in Kenya, which facilitates the delivery of world class films and events in media, music and the arts. The completion of the up-coming Studio City is expected to enable the Machawood platform to deliver TV, radio and films for hall screening. The Miss World beauty pageant has also been hosted in the County with Ms Machakos County scooping the Miss World Kenya 2013 title and proceeding to finish 7th position worldwide.
The Machakos County Government is made up of 10 ministries that work seamlessly to deliver returns on investments and provide world-class services to County residents. The Machakos County government is convinced that employment creation through various investments is the most effective strategy for spurring economic growth. The County government plans to achieve an average investment of Ksh. 20 billion per annum to foster sustainable growth and economic stability in the County.
The Machakos County Government recognizes the need for a carefully crafted and well laid roadmap that will take the County to its vision 2020. A big intervention in this regard is the development of a County Master Plan. The envisaged Master Plan will help leverage the strategic location of Machakos County through proper planning and carefully prioritized development.
