Getting Electricity
Kenya Power is the sole distributor of electricity in Kenya. Most residential areas, urban centers and industrial zones within the county already have electricity connections but for new connections, an investor is required to fill Electricity Application Forms (Kenya Power Online Application) and pay a refundable deposit. Applications for new power connections can be done online. On can also follow-up on the progress of their application online.
Power is billed in Kenya Shillings per Kilowatt hour. Other charges in electricity bills include Fuel Costs Adjustment charge, Foreign Exchange Adjustment charge, 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), Rural Electrification levy charged at 5% and Energy Regulatory Commission levy charged at 3 Kenya Cents per Kilowatt Hour.
Kenya Power can also provide personalized and customized power plan that will help you as an investor, plan the implementation of your investment or expand your already existing business. These medium and large scale power applications are also processed online by through the investor power plan process
